epJSON Viewer: a Public 3D Viewer for EnergyPlus Models

Explore EnergyPlus epJSON geometry in your browser with epJSON Viewer, publicly available through EMIB at the University of Antwerp.

Richard Dean Morales has publicly released epJSON Viewer through the GitHub Pages site of the Energy and Materials in Infrastructure and Buildings (EMIB) research group at the University of Antwerp. The tool displays EnergyPlus model geometry in 3D, directly in a web browser.

    Try epJSON Viewer

Drop an epJSON file into the viewer, or start with an included demonstration model.

Open epJSON Viewer — EnergyPlus 3D geometry viewer ↗

Inspect EnergyPlus geometry in your browser

Move around a model in 3D and examine how its buildings, zones, and surfaces fit together. Key features include:

    • Searchable model tree: navigate from buildings and zones down to individual surfaces and windows.
    • Colour and visibility controls: distinguish surface types, boundary conditions, or constructions, and switch geometry layers on or off.
    • Exterior and X-ray views: examine the building envelope or look through it to see the interior zoning.
    • Surface inspection: select a surface to check its construction, boundary condition, area, tilt, and orientation.
    • Selection and statistics: inspect individual surfaces, whole zones, or buildings in multi-building models, including area and window-to-wall ratio summaries.

Keep model files on your computer

Geometry is read directly from the EnergyPlus input file and processed locally in your browser. Your model stays on your computer while you explore it.
